Pick Up

After a few months of nothing to fly, needless to say I was quite excited for this day:

The Year in Past

Yeah, I know, it has been a heck of a long time. Nearly a year in fact. So, lets bring you up to date. After the first flight, I proceeded to fly off the Phase 1 testing while following the EAA Flight Test Manual. Rather than just fly for 40 hours with no goals, the […]

First Flight

After returning from Oshkosh, I was anxious to get the airplane into the air. Following the airworthiness inspection, I spent a few days putting everything back together (inspection panels, interior) which took more time than expected. I decided to wait until the following Saturday in order to fly early in the morning to avoid other […]

Airworthiness Inspection

On Aug 4, 2024, a Designated Airworthiness Inspector made a visit to the hangar to look over the airplane and ultimately issue an Airworthiness Certificate. The process went very smooth although I made sure everything was organized and ready. I was proud to finally say “I built an airplane!.

Final Assembly – About 120 hours

At this point in the build, I am pretty much done with the plans, and everything from this point on is getting the airplane through its final assembly steps, testing, and finally, a airworthiness inspection. My photo taking has very much suffered as a result, and I have fewer to share. I have spent the […]

The Big Move – 8 hours

Well, the day finally arrived. It was time to move to the hangar. I pretty much had done everything I could to the airplane in the garage so it was time to make it the airplane in the hangar. I hired a local tow truck operator, and I couldn’t have been more pleased with how […]

Paint Scheme

A while ago I gave an idea of what I thought would be a paint scheme for the airplane. I have since been working with Scheme Designers (https://schemedesigners.com) to come up with a more professionally designed scheme. We have pretty much settled on this: The wing design is next.

Avionics Panel Preview

I have been a lot of thinking about my panel. Without going into too much detail, here it is for now. It will be all Garmin and employ two 10″ G3X panels, 2 remote comms, autopilot, GNX 375 IFR Navigator (with transponder), a G5 backup attitude indicator, and an audio panel.

Paint Scheme Ideas

It is never too early to start thinking about what the airplane is going to look like. I actually got an inspiration from Oshkosh last year, and from seeing another design, I put two together and came up with this concept. This will be refined eventually by a professional airplane paint designer. Who knows, it […]

New Completion Date Estimate

After researching the amount of time that others are taking to complete the RV-14, and taking into account my average time per day, I decided to put together the below gant chart. This gives me a new fly date of November 2022. This depends on a lot of things and I reserve the right to […]
