Control Stick Installation

Just a quick update to sort of prove I am still working on the airplane. I am in the middle to working with the fiberglass on the wheelpants but I recently installed and wired the control sticks (Tosten CS-8).

As per the Tosten instructions, I trimmed off 3 1/4″ from the control columns. However, I am not sure if this is enough because the control stick might contact the panel with full forward deflection of the stick. But I will wait until the elevator is final installed to correct this if necessary. Apparently the elevator stops will prevent the sticks from going as far forward as they are now.

By the way, the button assignments are:

– Hat – aileron trim and elevator trim
– Left button – autopilot disconnect
– Right button – Comm swap
– Trigger – Push to Talk
– Button – smoke on (haha)

I had a lot of trouble with the pins and sockets in the kit provided and suggested Micro Molex connector that connects the Control Stick wires to the main harness. So, I swapped them out for 9-pin and socket Dsubs. Then I had to figure out where they go but I finally decided on zip tying the back shells to the vertical rib support underneath the control sticks.

The sticks move freely and without binding or resistance from the wires.

This shows the floor pans over the rib area where the Dsubs are located.
