Just thought I would get this out of the way. I am not going to prime the interior of the airplane. It seems that about 1/4 to 1/3 of RV builders choose not to do so. I have thought lots about it, and my reasons are as follows:
- It will add substantial time to the build along with a bit of extra weight
- I am not totally convinced that it will make much of a difference in preventing corrosion on the inside. Cessna and Piper do not prime, and there are tons of 50+ year old airplanes out there still flying without priming.
- I plan to keep the airplane in a hangar
- When the airplane is finished, I will be over 60 (hard for me to fathom being over 60). I will not be flying this airplane for decades after it is complete.
- I plan to apply CorrosionX or other corrosion inhibitor after it is painted.
I just thought I would put this here now in case someone asks me about it later.
